The advance of the southwest monsoon over the Indian mainland is marked by the onset over Kerala and is an important indicator characterising the transition from the hot and dry season to a rainy one.The monsoon rain, considered the lifeblood of India’s economy, missed its onset date in Kerala on Sunday with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipating a further delay of three to four days.
